Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good Bargain Laptop
Toshiba Satellite A85-S107 15" Notebook PC is genarally a good laptop. The screen is bright and sharp and the speakers are better than average. Perfect for office xp and interneting. I even run some basic photoshoping with it without much effort; I had to upgrade the memory to 768 MB. The only con is the average battery life. Also the laptop get hot; this is typical of most laptop I think. I solved the problem by using a laptop cooler.

Customer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Laptop (Notebook PC) for the money
Purchased this notebook for $ 429.00 after rebates. I was interested in purchasing a laptop to take with me on work assignments that had internal wireless capabilities, was inexpensive, dependable, lightweight and relatively fast. The Celeron processor is about what I expected considering 256 M ram. So far all the software needed to run my applications (McAfee Internet Security Suite, Lexar Media Card Reader, Palm OS, Wireless Optical Mouse, etc....) installed without a glitch. The laptop has three USB ports on the right side to accomidate external hardware. I use mine for the card reader, the wireless mouse and all my flash memory devices.

Some Pro's

- Excellent strength in acheiving wireless signal
- Very good keyboard reaction
- Excellent Monitor (Screen) Display
- Good battery charger (Takes about 1-1 1/2 hours to fully charge the batteries)

Some Con's

- Poor battery life - Less than 2 hours of continious operation (approximately)
- Takes a little too long loading the software upon power-up
- Suggest buying a Wireless Mouse
- Consider purchasing 512 M ram

All in all a very good product from Toshiba, who have always been a great manufacturer of laptop computers. A great product to accomplish all your needs for less than $ 500.

Customer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Really good basic notebook
With the Celeron processor things are a little pokey with CPU intensive applications, but for the money this is an excellent notebook. Used mainly for word processing it performs flawlwssly. I have encountered no problems with installing any software (except for MS Office-first drag the annoying Office 60 day demo to the trash or you may have trouble), nor any difficulties with extrenal hardware such as multiple printers and flash memory. I routinely use much higher end products, mainly by Dell and Apple, and the display, keyboard & touchpad ergonomics and all around user friendliness of the A85 compare favorably with the much more costly competitors. Very good product...I'm going to buy another one for my wife!

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pretty good intro laptop
I just bought this laptop for around $500 after rebates. The speed is what you would expect for a celeron at 256 mg ram; which is to say not bad. The screen is lovely, however it is limited to 1068 x 768 or whatever resolution, unlike newer WXGAs with 1260x1086. The only real downside is the battery, which lasts approx 1.5 hours on full charge with the screen at full brightness. That could be easily fixed with purchasing another battery or simply using the cord. Otherwise a good buy for the money.
